March 25, 1999 I'm here the University of Michigan's largest computing site, Angell Hall, and I feel soooo out of place, as I forgot to put on my fancy pants and a fresh slathering of less-than-subtle makeup. j/k re: feeling out of place, though in comparison I may look out of place. I'm supposed to be working on my Turing machines homework but I just had to write. It looks way space-age in here. Over spring break they put a ton of new iMacs and Mac G3's in here. All these wacky boxes and big, clear monitors with their funky stands--very aesthetically pleasing. However, I'm having trouble deciding if these are more futuristic or more retro. I give Apple snaps for their brave styling leap, but I don't necessarily see these as the wave of the future unless people want their computers to stand out. I'm not sure I'm ready for computer-as-centerpiece, though if i had the means (and the space) I'd love to get one (and that new os X server stuff too).
I'm going to try and do some homework now, but I'll probably be back.
